Copley Mill ChimneyBooks, DVDs and Videos on Local History in and around Teesdale

History on Your Doorstep is a pictorial record of life as it was in the Upper Gaunless Valley over the last hundred years or so.

My name is Len Teasdale and I set up the company "History on your Doorstep" as a pastime when I reached O.A.P. status.  Having had a life-long interest in photography and having a penchant for local history I decided to combine the two and collect old photographs of the Gaunless Valley villages of Woodland, Copley and Butterknowle, identify places and put names to faces and index each one into a catalogued collection. The collection now numbers a figure of very nearly three thousand of which the vast majority have been identified as to names and places.

Hopefully, future generations will benefit from the collection and particularly the accuracy of the descriptions of each photographs which have been meticulously researched.

I have produced DVD's regarding businesses, leisure activities and religion in the village of Woodland, and books about the Butterknowle murder when P. C. William Smith was brutally murdered on Diamond Bank, and one regarding the Dickensian character "Smike" who is mistakenly supposed to be interred in Lynesack Churchyard.

I have also published two books of old photographs of Copley village and the surrounding district.

Certain photographs shown in this website, can be obtained (containing text, or not, as required) in A5 size at a cost of £5:00 each including postage and packing by using the Books, DVDs and Video section along with the contact form.
